SIU's Board of Trustees has approved a three percent increase in tuition for SIU-C beginning fall 2013.
Trustees are meeting Thursday on the SIU Carbondale campus. Administrators had proposed a 5% increase for SIUC. Earlier this spring, Chancellor Rita Cheng said even at five percent the increase likely would not off-set a lower appropriation from the state in FY 2014. At the time, Cheng said further reorganization of the Carbondale campus might be needed to make up the gap.
Trustees approved a 5% tuition increase for SIU Edwardsville students beginning in the fall. The board is also expected to act on a series of student fee increases for both the Carbondale and Edwardsville campuses.
The SIU Board has appointed new trustee Randal Thomas as Chairman. Trustees Donna Manering was elected Vice Chair and Don Lowery as Secretary. Along with Thomas, the SIU Board welcomed trustee Shirley Portwood to fill two of the three vacant positions. One vacancy remains.
Additional issues on the agenda include a one-year renewal of SIUC’s marketing contract with Lipman-Hearne, and several items aimed at renovating and upgrading campuses throughout the system over the summer months.
