The SIU Board of Trustees will meet July 8 to appoint an acting Chancellor for the Carbondale campus.
Trustees will meet in a special meeting of the the full board on Tuesday at 3:00 pm at the Stone Center on the SIUC campus. The only agenda item is the appointment of an Acting Chancellor for SIU Carbondale.
Current SIU Carbondale Chancellor Rita Cheng is leaving to become the next President of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. She begins her new post on August 15th.
In an email to the SIU Carbondale campus community last week, SIU President Randy Dunn says Cheng completed her work on the Carbondale campus as of June 30, and will be taking vacation leave pending the start of her new post at Northern Arizona University. Dunn also expressed his appreciation for her contributions to the Carbondale campus.
Dunn says an acting Chancellor will be appointed on Tuesday. The Board's Executive Committee was scheduled to meet last week to act on the interim appointment. Dunn says a national search for a permanent Chancellor won't likely be on a 'fast-track,' but rather given time to find the right fit for the campus and community.
