An associate professor at SIU Carbondale faces up to a year in jail after being formally charged with battery.
Jackson County State's Attorney Mike Carr says 54-year-old Alan Weston of Marion will make his initial court appearance on May 15th.
Carr says the information he has asserts Weston made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with one of his students by pushing the student on April 23rd.
According to the SIU Police crime log, the incident occurred outside room E102 of the Engineering Building. The student did not require medical treatment.
