Faculty, staff and administrators at Southern Illinois University Carbondale are invited to a special town hall meeting this week to listen to campus issues from a student perspective.
The open forum will allow SIU–C students to raise issues they feel are important, such as campus safety, inequalities, and the campus–community relationship. The Registered Student Organization Speaking and Teaching is presenting the event. Its financial advisor and the forum's organizer, Demetrios Layne, says the purpose of the town hall meeting is to get campus leaders together in one location to hear student concerns.
Layne says a six–member student panel will raise the topics of concern. He says Chancellor Rita Cheng is scheduled to attend and will be invited to make her own remarks at the end of the meeting.
The SIU Town Hall Meeting is part of Black History Month activities and takes place Wednesday from 6–8:30 p.m. at the Lesar Law School on the SIU–C campus.
