SIU Reviews: Ex Machina

movie poster for Ex Machina

The 2015 independent British sci-fi thriller Ex Machina tells the story of a programmer who administers the Turing Test - a test to see if a machine’s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior is equivalent to that of a human – to an android invented by his eccentric employer.

Film critic Walter Metz takes a closer look in this edition of SIU Reviews.  Ex Machina is nominated for a Visual Effects Oscar.   Walter Metz teaches film studies in the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts at Southern Illinois University.

Walter Metz is a Professor of Film Studies in the Department of Cinema and Photography at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He teaches film, television, theater and photography history, theory and criticism.
