SIU Police Seek Suspect in April 17 Incident

SIU Police say two people have been arrested, and they're looking for a third suspect, in connection to an incident that prompted a safety alert on the Carbondale campus April 17.The Department of Public Safety was called to Lawson Hall just before 9:00pm on April 17 to reports of shots fired. Investigators found no evidence of a shooting, but said there was evidence of an altercation - blood was found on the floor outside one of the classrooms.

Police say two people have been identified and arrested, and they are looking for information on the third suspect. Nineteen year old Abdoulaye Sow was a student at SIU at the time of the incident, and DPS says he has been served with an interim separation from the university while the investigation continues. Sow is banned from campus.

Twenty-four year old Martell Scott was also arrested. He is not an SIU student. Both Scott and Sow are charged with aggravated battery in Jackson County. Scott also faces a mob action charge.

A third suspect is also being sought in the case. Police are asking anyone with information to call SIU DPS at 618-453-3771.

The victim in the case did not require medical treatment.
