SIU Basketball Players Face Disciplinary Action

Two SIU Basketball players have run afoul of the law and face disciplinary action.

In a written release, SIU Men’s head basketball coach Barry Hinson says junior guards Desmar Jackson and Diamond Taylor have pending charges for misdemeanor theft of a bicycle.  Hinson says Jackson also faces charges related to two traffic violations.  Hinson says the disciplinary action will be handled internally.

Hinson says he’s extremely disappointed in the two young men.

Jackson sat out the 2011-12 season after transferring from Wyoming. He led the Cowboys in scoring as a sophomore in 2011 with 14.6 points per game and ranked fifth in the Mountain West Conference. Taylor has played in 46 games in two years at Southern, making 16 starts. He averaged 4.3 points last season.

This is not Taylor’s first brush with the law.  According to Jackson County Circuit Court records Taylor pleaded guilty last year to an ordinance violation for possession of less than 10-grams of marijuana. He served six months of supervision and paid a fine.
