The National Weather Service is advising listeners of the threat for severe weather tonight
A strong storm system will move east into the region today. Severe thunderstorms with torrential rainfall and damaging winds are the primary concern but large hail and tornadoes are also possible, especially in the far southern most counties in Illinois. The system is expected to move into the region between 9 pm today and 3 am Monday. The storms are expected to spread quickly. Wind damage and flash flooding are the biggest concerns across the Evansville tri-state area and northern portions of southern Illinois.
The severe weather is expected to spread northeast into the region with the initial development coming northward from New Madrid, Missouri up through Cape Girardeau. The initial storms will have the greatest potential for tornadoes. The National Weather Service says the greatest risk for tornadoes will be to the east and south of a line from Anna to Marion and south into central Kentucky. This includes the southern most counties in Illinois and most of western Kentucky.
