A measure to keep the Hardin County Work Camp open has passed out of a Senate committee.
House Bill 43-26 provides that the Illinois Department of Corrections will operate the facility at Cave-In-Rock.
Last August the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability held a hearing to discuss the economic impact of closing several state facilities. The panel voted in favor of keeping the Hardin County Work Camp open. Gov. Rauner still moved to close the facility.
The legislation will now go to the full Senate for consideration.
The Illinois House passed a bill to reopen the work camp in March.
