Secretary of State's Office Worried About Losing Vendors

State Seal

The Secretary of State's office says the budget deadlock in Springfield is taking its toll on the office.

With no budget in place...bills to vendors like utility companies aren't getting paid.
Secretary of State spokesperson Henry Haupt says of biggest concern are the office's contracts with computer and licensing software companies to help maintain the state's massive database of driver information.

"And those entities aren't getting paid by the comptroller either. A few of them have threatened to discontinue or suspend their service to us. Thus far, we've been able to talk them into working with us a while longer, but that's a very grave concern."

Haupt says lease payments also aren't getting paid...and the armored truck service they use to transport cash from driver's facilities to the bank is threatening to discontinue service.

Motorists need to be extra vigilant about checking when their vehicle registration needs to be renewed.

Due to the current budget stalemate...Haupt says the office is suspending the mailing of renewal reminders.

Haupt urges motorists to sign up for electronic reminders via their website: cyberdriveillinois.com. These e-reminders will also let you go ahead and renew your registration online as well.
