Secretary of State Urges Driving Safety on 4th Holiday
The Fourth of July holiday is the fourth deadliest holiday for motorists and passengers in Illinois.
In 2011, 69% of the Fourth of July fatalities in Illinois were alcohol related. In 2010, it was 70%. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is asking anyone who plans on driving during the Fourth of July holiday to refrain from drinking and to remember to wear their safety belts. White cautions drivers that law enforcement will be conducting DUI patrols during the holiday.
White has urged drivers to celebrate the holiday safely by using a designated driver who abstains from drinking. White also suggests taking public transportation, calling a cab, or staying overnight if needed. White also ask drivers who see a drunk driver on the road during the holiday to pull over immediately and call 911 and report the drunk driver.
