Scam Targets Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale

The Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale is apparently the victim of a scam.

Executive director Randy Osborn says the Wal-Mart store on the east side of Carbondale alerted him Thursday afternoon that four young men were pretending to be raising money for the club outside the store.

He says this is NOT how the club raises money.

"We never send donation collectors out, we certainly don't use club members to raise money for the club.  These guys were from Chicago apparently. They didn't get caught by the police, so they're still loose in the area. We just want the public to know if they're asked to donate outside of a store, it's a scam."

Osborn says this is particularly disheartening considering the club is about to celebrate its 10-year anniversary.

Osborn says he notified the Carbondale Police Department and officers are currently searching for the four young men.
