Salem Police Warn About Hard to Spot Scam

Images

A new phone scam is going around the Salem area.

Phone scams are becoming more common and now they use local numbers to get you to answer the phone.

"Used to you would get these numbers and may they would be a number you did not recognize. They would be out of the area. Anymore, they seem to be computer generated so they're able to appear they are making a local call."

That's Salem Police Chief Sean Reynolds. He says many of these scams will appear with a local number like the 548 Salem prefix. Chief Reynolds says landline or cell-phone, they still call.

"I receive a phone call or 2 a day it seems like from a different number and it doesn't matter how many time you block it, you'll still get that same phone call."

Chief Reynolds says you should never give personal information over the phone and call your local police if you have any information that could be helpful.
