Rural Williamson County Death Ruled Homicide

Williamson County State's Attorney's Office

Williamson County investigators say a woman whose body was found in a burning home was shot to death.

State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti says 53-year old Lisa Uzzle was found as firefighters responded to her burning home on McGeesville Road on September sixth.

"The house was totally destroyed by the fire, and the body was also destroyed beyond all recognition due to the fire. The only means of identification was through DNA."

DNA results came back this week, and Zanotti says he and investigators with the Sheriff's Department and Illinois State Police are working the case as a homicide.
Zanotti says Uzzle, a postal carrier in the Marion Post Office, was shot and killed before the fire was started. The State Fire Marshall's Office says the fire is suspicious.

Zanotti says the delay in releasing Uzzle's identity comes from waiting for DNA and toxicology tests. He says there is reason to believe this is NOT a random event, and he's asking anyone with information to call the Williamson County Sheriff's Department.
