Rep. Mike Bost Stresses Local Cooperation In Fighting Hunger

U.S. 12th District Congressman Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro) stopped by the Carbondale–based Good Samaritan Food Pantry Monday to urge both local churches and private citizens to support the work of the pantry.

Bost also praised the efforts of large retailers like Wal–Mart, Schnucks, and Kroger in working closely with the St. Louis Area Food banks in shipping food to southern Illinois on a weekly basis.

Bost says he's also working with Good Samaritan Ministries Director Patty Mullen in securing grants for the continued operation.  Director Mullen said she is very thankful for the support of the St. Louis Area Food banks, but also stressed that her group relies very heavily on donations from local faith–based groups and local volunteers.

Mullen said last year,  the pantry provided more than 3,000 plates of food for Carbondale residents.  She added that the need is 12 months a year and if you would like to donate your time you can call 618–457–5794.
