Freshman Congressman Mike Bost thinks Republicans will rally behind Donald Trump by the time this week is over, despite a rocky start to the Republican National Convention.
He's got quite a stage presence, but that's a completely different person than when he's one-on-one. ~Rep. Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro)
"I believe they're going to come very, very united out of the Convention. I think he made an excellent choice as his Vice President Candidate to be the stabling factor to a personality that is unique, to say the least."
Bost says Trump is very different behind the scenes than he is in front of a crowd, and that gives him hope that the party will unify.
"He's got quite a stage presence, but that's a completely different person than when he's one-on-one. When he's one-on-one, he listens very closely and intently. If I had to talk to him, it's probably things he knows already, because he and I come from the idea of business."
Bost is skipping the RNC because he's in a hotly contested race for reelection. The 12th Congressional District in Illinois is a targeted district, and Bost faces Democrat C.J. Baricevic and the Green Party's Paula Bradshaw this November.
The Murphysboro Republican says he believes Trump's choice for a Vice President, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, will also help bring the GOP together. Still, Bost says there is a long way to go in uniting a country divided on numerous issues.
