Region Sees First Snow of Season

Listener provided

The quad-state received its first taste of winter with a mix of sleet and snow.

As much as 1 to 5 inches of snow is expected across the quad state region by the time the system moves through early Monday morning.

Sunday, snow blanketed the region beginning during the noon hour in the Salem-Effingham area and by late afternoon across deep southern Illinois into southeast Missouri and western Kentucky.

--- Original Story ---

The advisory is in effect from 6:00 pm Sunday until 6:00 am Monday for most counties along and south of I-64 in southern Illinois.   A light mixture of rain, sleet, and snow will begin over the quad-state late Sunday afternoon.

Precipitation will begin to increase rapidly in coverage and intensity as it moves northeast across the region.    It appears that 1-2 inches of snow will occur within the advisory region.  There is also a potential for locally heavier amounts up to 4 inches over southwest Indiana and northwest Kentucky.
