Quinn Urges Local Control in Concealed Carry

Governor Pat Quinn has reiterated his support for a concealed-carry law that gives local communities the option to impose their own restrictions.

Lawmakers have until June 9th to legalize concealed carry after a federal appeals court ruled Illinois' ban unconstitutional. Last week, House members defeated a plan last week that would have established a way to allow qualified gun owners to carry concealed weapons.  Quinn wants the Illinois attorney general to appeal to the U-S Supreme Court. But he says if there has to be concealed carry, local entities should have control: "Local option would allow home-rule cities and counties to have their standards that the people in their community feel are appropriate with respect for any kind of weapon."

There's one proposal that would just give Cook County its own restrictions. Quinn told reporters he'd rather see a system where MORE communities have their own say.
