With more delegates at stake this week, candidates vying for their party's nomination for President are making stops across Illinois and Missouri this weekend.

A large police presence oversaw a rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Bloomington, Illinois.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports officers from several law enforcement agencies worked together to staff the Sunday morning event.

Local anti-Trump activist Sonny Garcia says more than 1,000 people indicated on a Facebook page that they planned to protest Trump's central Illinois campaign stop. Garcia has appealed for a peaceful demonstration.

On Friday night, Trump canceled a rally at the University of Illinois at Chicago after a large number of protesters showed up.

Meanwhile in Missouri, Republican Senator Ted Cruz campaigned across the state Saturday in suburban St. Louis, Kansas City, Cape Girardeau and Springfield. Republican Donald Trump also was in Kansas City.

For Democrats, Hillary Clinton was to appear in St. Louis and Sen. Bernie Sanders in Springfield.

Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders is making campaign appearances in Illinois ahead of Tuesday's primary.

Sanders held a news conference Saturday morning in Chicago and then attended a forum with the Reverend Jesse Jackson.

Sanders held a rally in the Chicago suburb of Summit on Friday, saying a high turnout in the Illinois primary next week will help him like it did in Michigan. He referenced local issues, blasting Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who has endorsed Hillary Clinton, for closing dozens of city schools in 2013 over low enrollment and poor performance.

The Vermont senator released three new TV ads in Illinois on Friday.
