Peterson Completes Pittsburgh Race

Retired Southern Illinois University Carbondale English professor and WSIU's Reading Baseball host Pete Peterson completed a half marathon Sunday in Pittsburgh.

Peterson completed the 13.1-mile course in just over two hours and 25 minutes. That was good enough for the 74-year-old to finish 9th out of 18 runners in the 70-74 year-old age group. Before the race, Peterson said last month's Boston Marathon bombings would be at the forefront of people's minds in the Pittsburgh Marathon. He says a tragedy like that is almost unfathomable because marathons create such a sense of unity.

Peterson ran the half marathon in 2012 and the full 26.2 mile marathon in 2010.
