United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, will visit Southern Illinois University next week.
SIU-C spokesperson Rae Goldsmith says Secretary Ban will deliver his last public lecture as the U-N's leader on Wednesday, December 21 in Carbondale. She says the university and the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute have both sent him invitations over a period of time.

"My understanding is he was looking at a place he wanted to close out his remarks. He found our invitation and decided to check out and see if we would welcome him and of course we are very happy to welcome him here."

The speech - expected to focus on what he's learned and wants pass on - is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. December 21 at the SIU Student Center ballrooms, and it's free and open to the public.
