A Goreville man is dead after a head-on crash on Route 37 south of Marion Wednesday afternoon.

Illinois State Police say the 72-year old man, whose name is not being released, was headed north when his pickup truck crossed into the southbound lane and hit a Jeep head-on.

The truck driver was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center, where he died.

The Jeep's driver, 23-year old Trey Holmes of Marion, was also taken to Heartland with what police call non-life threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigations show the crash's cause was alcohol or otherwise impaired driving.

Route 37 was closed for nearly three hours as police cleared the area and collected evidence.
