Authorities say an 8-year-old girl was found dead in a Richland County town after she was reported missing.
In a statement, Illinois State Police say someone reported the girl missing on Wednesday evening. She was later found dead behind a building on the south side of Olney. The town of about 9,000 people is located 45 southeast of Effingham.
Authorities say the Southern Illinois Child Death Task Force is investigating the death as a homicide.
They didn't identify the girl or say when her body was found.
