No Charges in Deadly Marion Standoff

Williamson County's State's Attorney says he won't be filing any charges in connection to last month's deadly police standoff in Marion.

Officers from multiple agencies responded to the area of Russell and Main Streets on April 28, to a hostage situation where the hostage taker, Joshua Green, was armed.

Green was eventually killed after he repeatedly fired on police, and his victim, Samantha Holmes, was also shot.

State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti says it's a tragedy for everyone involved.

"The victim, Ms. Holmes, she endured unspeakable nightmares as a hostage, with uncertainty as to her fate that night. Mr. Green's family, they've lost a loved one."

Holmes has been released from the hospital, but may still need surgeries to correct the damage done when she was shot. Zanotti says an investigation shows Holmes was shot by one of the officers responding, but he says no charges will be filed.

Zanotti says it appears Green and Holmes had a friendly relationship which escalated to an unhealthy infatuation on Green's part.

"You know, I think that a lot of times when these situations happen, people think that it's never going to escalate further, maybe, than - as I said - an unhealthy infatuation. I think this case shows that these things do happen."

Zanotti says if someone is concerned about a situation, they should call their local police department or his office.

Zanotti says the investigation also found Green had stolen the gun he used, along with two others, from a home in Creal Springs earlier in the day. Green was pronounced dead at the scene of the standoff.
