Carterville, IL – Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced a pilot program that will allow law enforcement officers to track the purchases of key meth ingredients at 75 pharmacies in six southern Illinois counties.
She says the pharmacies will be linked electronically and updated at least weekly so law enforcement can look for patterns in the purchase of pseudo-ephedrine.
Madigan says this is a system already used in Oklahoma. She hopes the pilot programs in individual states will lead to a national meth tracking system.
The six counties involved in this program are Jackson, Williamson, Union, Franklin, Saline and Johnson.
The money for the pilot program in comes from a $98,000 federal grant secured by Congressman Jerry Costello (D-Belleville).
