Murray State University Dorm Explosion: Gas Leak, Reported

Richmond Hall at Murray State University has suffered extensive damage from an explosion  that shook buildings many miles away.  

The Kentucky State Police confirm one person, Dakota L. Fields, 26, was injured in the explosion and is reported in stable condition.  Murray State confirms the injured person was a Murray State employee.   University personnel have relocated the  nearly 500  school-aged campers that stay on campus during the summer months to a safe location.

The explosion occurred around 5:00 Wednesday afternoon. A gas leak was reported immediately after the explosion. The city of Murray has turned off the gas near the building, as reported by first responders.

There is no word on the official cause of the explosion. 

Emergency personnel are on the scene. MSU police are asking people to stay out of the area.
