Teachers in the Murphysboro School District have a new contract.
The Board of Education Tuesday night ratified the new deal. The teachers did the same last week.
Superintendent Chris Grode says there was a compromise on a teacher salary increase.
"They got their step increase. They also got 2.25% increase on the cells. So, every step, every lane, is going to go up 2.25%."
Grode says the pay increase is roughly in the middle based on the proposals from each side.
He says the deal also includes a flexible spending account of 700-dollars that teachers can use for co-pays, deductibles or other medical expenses.
Just over a week after there was talk of a potential teacher's strike. The Murphysboro Education Association authorized a strike for October 2nd if there was no progress in negotiations. But, a bargaining session on October 1st led to the new deal.
Grode says he's glad the deal is done.
"Having it over and moving forward is wonderful. Having no strike is absolutely great for the community. I do believe that we came up to a fair and good agreement."
The one-year agreement means both sides will be back at the negotiating table next spring.
