Murphysboro Man Dies in Auto Accident

A deadly car accident occurred Wednesday morning near Carbondale.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, driver, 33 year-old Ryan Robbins of Murphysboro was pronounced dead at the scene and 33 year-old, Joseph Hawk of Carbondale was extricated from the vehicle and flown by helicopter to a hospital in the St. Louis area.

The traffic crash was at 5:19 am on Chautauqua Road, just east of West Pleasant Hill Road. The vehicle was a black Chevrolet Silverado which was on its side in a wooded area with the two passengers trapped inside. The vehicle had failed to make a curve, ran off the road and struck several trees.
