Mt. Vernon Murder Suspect Caught In Springfield

An 18-year-old is charged in connection with a shooting death in Mt. Vernon.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department says members of the United States Marshall's Service in Springfield took Lekedrieon Russell into custody on Monday. He is charged with First Degree Murder in the January 20th death of Deandray Jackson.
WJBD Radio reports Russell is accused of shooting Jackson while attempting to rob him in an alleyway off the 1800 block of Conger Avenue.

Two others were arrested in connection with the case. 21-year-old Dantrez Brown has been charged with felony obstruction and a 17-year-old juvenile has been charged with robbery and mob action.

The search continues for two others who were identified by Mt. Vernon Police on Monday as 'persons of interest' in the investigation. 20-year-old John Wells and 19-year-old Lamar Williams, Junior are also wanted on warrants not connected to the murder case.
