Memorial Hospital of Carbondale gave a sneak peek at their state of the art Hybrid OR Tuesday.
They will start using the hybrid OR at the end of the month.
This is part of their 52 million dollar expansion they started in the fall of 2014.
“This room is so special because it allows us to perform complex vascular and endovascular Procedures.”
Dr Al-Zoubaidi says the hybrid OR gives them the ability to choose which treatment is better right after the patient is diagnosed in the same room.
“Ranging from aneurysms of the aorta to heart valves to complex blockages of the arteries of the human body.”
The room features a robotic X-ray arm and 3D imaging to provide state of the art real time imaging during surgery.
SIH Director of Cardiovascular Services Tony Capuano (CAP-U-ONO) says the hybrid OR will greatly benefit the community.
“It actually means you can stay here locally instead of traveling to Springfield IL or St Louis to have your complex major cardiovascular procedures.”
Having the ability to choose endovascular surgery also means patients will experience rapid recovery from a less invasive operation.
The hospital plans to complete all of the construction by September of 2017.
