Events to be held Thursday, July 11 at C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library, Mt. Vernon & West Frankfort Public Library

Carbondale, Ill. -- Reporters, photographers, and camera crews are invited to cover free screenings of award-winning Prix Jeunesse International children's films at regional libraries this summer. The films are being shown as part of the summer library reading program, “Have Book, Will Travel”. The SIU College of Mass Communication and Media Arts, WSIU Public Broadcasting, the SIU Global Media Research Center, and the SIU Center for International Education are presenting the films in conjunction with regional libraries.

The next two film screenings will be held this Thursday, July 11 from 10-11am at C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and from 2-3pm at West Frankfort Public Library. Special guests from the countries featured in the films will talk with children and parents after the screenings.

Films at C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library in Mt. Vernon are aimed at children ages 8 and younger and include Stella and Sam from Radical Sheep Productions, Canada, and Neighbors from NHK, Japan. SIU international students Jeff Morrisey of Canada and Yurino Kawashima of Japan will meet and interact with families following the screening.

Films at the West Frankfort library are for children ages 7-11+ and include My Dream Bike from TRT Istanbul, Turkey and The Story of a Letter from China Central Television, China. SIU international student Ling Jin of China will talk with the audience after the film's conclusion.

Special book titles representing countries featured in the films also will be available.
