SIU Extended Campus, WSIU to Co-Host Community Cinema Screening at WSIU-TV Studio on Thu, Sept 22
Carbondale, Ill. – Reporters, photographers, and camera crews are invited to cover the second film screening event in the local 2016-17 Community Cinema series. The SIU Extended Campus, in partnership with WSIU Public Broadcasting, will present a free screening and discussion of TED Talks: Education Revolution this Thursday, September 22 at 4pm in WSIU-TV Studio A on the SIU Carbondale Campus, Room 1065 in the Communications Building, 1100 Lincoln Drive.
TED Talks: Education Revolution explores innovative approaches to education presented by speakers Anna Deavere Smith and Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy, and covers topics such as the school-to-prison pipeline, the impact of micromanaging kids, and how to help struggling students become scholars.
A discussion about the film’s themes will follow the screening. Discussion moderators are Karla Berry, Director of the SIU Center for Teaching Excellence, and Grant Miller, Associate Professor, SIU Curriculum & Instruction, and Director, Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Resources.
Event co-host Dr. Kathy Smith, Conference Coordinator for SIU Extended Campus, will assist K-12 educators seeking professional development credits for their participation.

Enter through the McLeod Theater door on the south side of the building or the Daily Egyptian door on the west side, and follow signs to get to the WSIU-TV Studio on the ground floor.
