Former Saluki and Hammer Throw Gold Medalist Jeneva McCall finished 8th in the Shot Put Thursday at the World University Games in Russia.
McCall, a three-time NCAA Champion, advanced to finals in the shot put with her best throw of 17.04m but could not best that mark in her last five attempts. Irina Tarasova of Russia took the lead and the gold with her fifth attempt of 18.75m. Former Missouri Valley opponent and Indiana State Sycamore Felisha Johnson finished ahead of McCall in 7th place at 17.47m
McCall won the hammer throw on Wednesday with a mark of 73.75 m to clinch a huge upset victory over the current hammer throw world-leader Oxana Kondratyeva of Russia. McCall became the first American woman in history to medal in the hammer throw at any international competition.
