Two retired judges and dozens of family members and supporters were on hand Monday in Marion for the formal announcement by Attorney David Lawler, that he is a candidate for Williamson County Circuit Judge. Lawler is a graduate of the Southern Illinois University School of Law and  In 2008 was hired by then-Williamson County State’s Attorney Charles Garnati, to be an Assistant State’s Attorney.

If elected, Lawler says he would like to see an expanded use of so-called drug courts to fight the opioid  epidemic. These drug courts can sometimes keep an offender from having a felony on their record, if they do not have a violent background.  The vacancy was created this past September 30th with the retirement of Judge Phillip Palmer.   The primary will be held on March 20th, and the General Election will take place November 6th of 2018.
