Total Solar Eclipse

After all the hype and preparation the Total solar eclipse came and went, at least for 7years.

Makanda was the cross roads of the eclipse with the longest totality.

People from near and far gathered in the tiny of Makanda today for the total solar eclipse.

“From Naperville”

“From Memphis”

“I’m from Chicago IL, south side”

“Roger City Michigan”

“I’m from Brazil”

And they were in for a treat, like Melody Hincka who drove down from Michigan last night.

“A once in a lifetime, amazing opportunity to not only see the eclipse but to be in totality.”

Some people wanted to make sure they didn’t miss it, like Mark Stevenson who left Chicago last night at 8 pm and fought through traffic to arrive in Makanda at 11am today.

“I wanted to make sure that I made it here because this is a once in a lifetime experience, absolutely.”

Makanda had 2 minutes and 40 seconds of totality.

And not a single cloud in sight gave the hundreds of people here an amazing show, like Kimberley Dolph from Chicago

“I was shaking trying to get a good picture and trying to see the whole thing and yeah it was kind of emotional.”

Silvia Cassivi is on vacation from Brazil and just happened to get lucky today.

“I came to Memphis to visit friends and decided to just come here to see the eclipse”

Makanda will be at the cross roads again on April 8 2024.
