Local Protest Sunday Opposes Kavanaugh Court Nomination

Flyer

Part of a national protest will take place in Benton on Sunday to oppose the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court.

President Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh to fill the seat after Justice Anthony Kennedy retired. The senate confirmation hearing is scheduled for September 4th.

Erica Mauter, the campaign director for Move On, a progressive political advocacy group says the protest, Unite for Justice, has a lot of support.

"What makes this really strong is that people in their own communities are recognizing how important this issue is."

Kavanaugh, who previously worked for President George W. Bush, will be the second Supreme Court appointment by Trump and many are worried Kavanaugh will help create a conservative court.

"I'm really grateful that we have a host in Benton that wants Senators Durbin and Duckworth to know that not only that its important to their constituents to vote no on Brett Kavanaugh, but that they as Senators can be vocal in opposing his nomination."

The local protest will be at the Benton Federal Courthouse at 12 pm on Sunday.
