A group of concerned citizens wants the City of Carbondale to protect immigrants in the community.
Group spokesperson Natalie Long says members proposed an ordinance during Tuesday's City Council meeting.
"We'd like the city to commit to refraining from using local resources, be it local law enforcement, local funds, as well as abstaining from receiving state or federal resources or funds for the enactment of any federal immigration enforcement."
Long says the group believes the City of Carbondale could use immigration enforcement resources in more productive ways.
She says each council member received a copy of the group's proposal for further consideration.
