Senior citizens and people with disabilities can soon start applying for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program - or LIHEAP.
Local agencies will begin scheduling appointments and accepting applications for winter heating assistance on October 1st.
When applying for assistance, bring proof of gross income from all household members; a copy of current heating and electric bills issued within the last 30 days; a copy of the rental agreement - if renting; proof of Social Security numbers for all household members and any state benefits.
Agencies serving southern Illinois include Western Egyptian Economic Opportunity Council, the Shawnee Development Council, Crosswalk Community Action Agency, Wabash Area Development, and BCMW Community Services.
