Lawmakers Return to State Capitol

State lawmakers will be back at the capitol on Tuesday following a two-week break.
There are about seven weeks left in Illinois' legislative session and there's a lot of issues left to be resolved.
For one, what will happen with indicted Representative Derrick Smith.   Since his arrest for allegedly taking a seven thousand dollar bribe, Smith has been absent from Springfield. But his attorney says the Chicago Democrat's coming back.   He's not likely to be welcomed.   A House committee has been formed to investigate him, which could lead to his removal from office.

Another controversial figure is also set to be in Springfield on Tuesday -- Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.  He'll speak to state business leaders.  Unions, which have fought with Walker, are sure to make their voices heard through a planned protest.

That all comes as Governor Pat Quinn and legislators are set to come forward with proposals to cut back on two of the state's main expenses -- pensions and Medicaid costs.  The Governor has indicated he wants to cut $2.7 Billion from the state's Medicaid program. Scaling down either is controversial, but legislators say both are needed to get Illinois' finances in order.  Lawmakers and the Governor must also come to terms on the state's Fiscal 2013 budget.
