A big section of Lambert Airport that had been shut down since a Good Friday tornado a year ago is open again. The St. Louis airport's “C” concourse reopened Monday following extensive renovations. The EF-4 twister last April blew out scores of windows and caused millions of dollars of damage to the airport, mostly to the “C” concourse. The "C" Concourse is home to American Airlines, Frontier, and Cape Air.
No one was killed in the April 2011 tornado, but in addition to the airport damage, hundreds of homes nearby were damaged or destroyed. Lambert officials say the repairs coincided with a planned major renovation. All told, nearly $15 million was spent on the project.
