A suburban Indianapolis teacher who was shot by a 13-year-old boy inside his classroom described in a court hearing how he tackled and disarmed the student.

Science teacher and SIU-Carbondale graduate Jason Seaman is credited with halting the May 25 shooting that also wounded a 13-year-old girl at Noblesville West Middle School.
The Indianapolis Star reports Seaman testified during Monday's juvenile court hearing.

Seaman said he was helping another student when the boy entered and began firing. Seaman said he threw a small basketball at the student and then tackled him, even as the boy continued firing. He says he pinned him to the floor and eventually forced him to the drop the weapon.

Seaman says he told his other students to run from the classroom and call 911, then disarmed the boy, who had a second gun.

The 13-year-old boy admitted to the shooting. A juvenile court judge will decide on the punishment at a later date.
