The Jackson County Healthy Communities Coalition celebrated its 15th anniversary on Thursday.
The Jackson County Healthy Communities Coalition formed 15 years ago with a goal to improve the health and quality of life for the residents of Jackson County.
With over 50 agencies involved they tackle issues like behavioral health, diabetes, cancer, food nutrition and many other health problems.
“Our goal is to keep people healthy, happy and home.”
SIH’s Community Health Coordinator Greg Smith says one thing they focused on was keeping people from going to the ER because they don’t have a primary care physician.
“One of our over arching is to have folks have the tools and the knowledge to take care of themselves and have the ability to if they start to get sick they go see their primary care physician.”
Michelle McLernon with the Jackson County Health Department says this coalition has benefited everyone in Jackson County.
“When you get out into the more remote communities they have fewer resources available to them and that is why working together as a group that we can address the even smaller communities with even smaller resources.”
