Seatbelt usage in Illinois has hit an all-time high.
A little more than 95 percent of Illinois drivers and front seat passengers are wearing their safety belt...up from 94 percent last year.
State Department of Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn says there are still a few that aren't getting the message.
"It is primarily young males and we've got to find a different way to message to them about why we're out there to have them think about how they save their lives."
The National Highway Safety Administration said earlier this year that Illinois ranked seventh nationally in safety-belt usage for 2014. IDOT officials say they're happy about the number but still want it to be higher.
Seatbelts have been mandatory in Illinois since 1985.
In 2012...a new law required those in the backseat to buckle up as well.
IDOT undertook a survey of over 155,000 front-seat occupants on roads across Illinois.
Data for back-seat passenger seat-belt usage is due in October.
