With Monday's meeting of the Electoral College, Illinois was NOT among the states where there was a concern about so-called faithless electors.
They met in the state Capitol building ... mostly Democratic Party stalwarts — like Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, former Chicago mayoral candidate Jesús "Chuy" Garcia, and House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie.

In other words, the outcome was in no way a surprise.

"It's my pleasure to announce that Hillary Clinton received 20 electoral votes for president of the United States. Timothy Kaine — Michael Kaine — received 20 electoral votes for vice president of the United States."

Illinois awards all of its electoral votes to the popular vote winner. Clinton soundly defeated Donald Trump here — 56 to 39.

One by one, the electors would walk to the front of the room and drop a piece of paper into a fancy ballot box.

When former state representative Lauren Beth Gash was called up, she pulled out a smart phone and began reading a prepared statement.

She called for an investigation into allegations of both voter suppression and 'direct interference from foreign actors.'"
