I-57 Crash Kills One and Injures Two Others

Police Car and Lights

Illinois State Police are investigating a crash this morning along Interstate 57 that killed one person and injured two others.
Troopers say the crash - at milepost 78 in Franklin County - was in the south-bound lanes. Preliminary reports say 22-year old Geornisha Brown of South Bend, Indiana lost control of a 2005 Buick Ranier, which flipped when it entered the median.

Brown was taken to a local hospital after the crash. Both passengers in the car were thrown out as it rolled over. Police say 22-year old Shareita Patton of Grand Prairie, Texas, was killed. The other passenger, 21-year old Victoria Fleming of South Bend, was also taken to the hospital.

Investigators say neither passenger in the car was wearing a seatbelt. Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane while crews worked to clear the scene, and also in the northbound lanes as investigators took a closer look.
