Governor Names New SIU Trustees

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has appointed three new members to serve on the Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees.

Monday afternoon Quinn announced that Sandra Cook, Melvin Terrell, and Lee Milner will fill three expired terms on the SIU Board.

Cook is from Collinsville and is an attorney with the Brown and James Law firm in Belleville.  Terrell is from Chicago and is a former Vice President of Student Affairs at Northeastern Illinois University.  Milner is from Springfield. He is the Public Affairs Manager for the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center and worked for more than 20-years for the State Board of Education.

All three Trustee appointees are graduates of Southern Illinois University. They will replace SIU Trustees John Simmons, Ed Hightower, and Mark Hinrichs whose terms expired in January.   Simmons is the Board's current President.  Hightower serves as Vice President and Hinrichs as Secretary.  The Board is scheduled to select its new leadership at it's meeting on Thursday in Edwardsville.

The new trustees can begin serving immediately even though their appointments must still be approved by the state Senate.
