Gov. Rauner On Whether Pres. Trump Will Factor in His Reelection Bid

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says he does not think President Donald Trump will be a factor in his re-election campaign next year.

Democrats have been tying Rauner to Trump for months.
It came up repeatedly this week at the Illinois State Fair as Democrats held their political events. And it makes sense - considering the president lost Illinois by 17 points in last year’s election.

But Rauner says he thinks national politics is its own world - and he’s focusing on what he can do in Illinois.

"I don’t think it’s gonna matter because people see me as my own person. I stand for what I stand for and I have strongly, vehemently disagreed with the president on his comments about Charlottesville."

Rauner usually doesn’t mention Trump by name - but he said the president’s comments this week about violence in Virginia are harmful to the country.
