Governor Bruce Rauner signed agriculture bills over the weekend at the DuQuoin State Fair.
One increases truck haul weights for farmers.
Representative Natalie Phelps-Finnie pushed the bill through the House as the chief sponsor. The Elizabethtown democrat says it will lower costs on Illinois truck drivers because of the disparity in legal haul weights between Illinois and surrounding states.
"This was so important for our farmers to be able to get their grain hauled quickly and efficiently and for our grain elevators to get business and create that parity between states."
Republican State Senator Dale Fowler of Harrisburg led the charge in his chamber.
"This is what legislation is all about. This is what being a legislator is all about...true compromise on a bi-partisan effort."
Another bill permits the growth of industrial hemp.
