The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says storms that devastated parts of southern Illinois have forced them to close part of Giant City State Park.DNR officials say a tornado hit the state park around 4:30 Wednesday morning and uprooted trees and damaged a shelter. Park officials say some trails and other areas are unsafe and will be closed until they can be repaired or cleaned up.
The areas of Giant City State Park closed to the public for their safety include the Giant City Trail, Giant City Lodge Road from Stone Fort Road to Church Road, and the Post Oak Trail and bluff area - which includes the bluff line along Giant City Lodge Road.
DNR officials aren't sure how long work at Giant City will take. They advise people to check the agency's website for updates.
