GI BIll Helps Vets and the Country

logo
The GI Bill was signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt on June 22nd, 1944

In 1944 the United States Congress passed the Servicemen's Readjustment Act, more commonly known as the GI Bill, which still plays a crucial role in American society today  as America's longest war winds down. Huge numbers of veterans are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and are eager to make the transition from soldier, to civilian.  Many returning vets are finding that the GI Bill can air in that transition.  In this feature we hear from Paul Copeland, the Coordinator of Veterans Services and from a returing soldier, Ryan McKennedy of Springfield Illinois. To learn more about the history of the GI Bill visit: http://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/history.aspTo learn more about attending SIU under the GI Bill, visit: http://veterans.siu.edu/
